Thomas R. Andrews, RA, NCARB
Thomas has extensive architectural, construction and development industry experience – in both Washington, DC and, since 2018, in Hailey, Idaho. His experiences working on each of the three sides of the industry – design, development and construction – bring immeasurable value to every client and project. Thomas has been a leader at every stage of the process - planning, design, development, and construction of diverse and complex projects, from new construction, expansions, renovations, capital improvements of existing properties, and tenant improvement projects. In addition, he has considerable experience with Green Building, from LEED design and documentation on commercial projects to hands-on experience with very efficient residential projects.
Thomas entered the architecture profession after first establishing his own custom cabinet company, which he operated for 3 years. He then shifted to the construction arena, working for six years as an Assistant Project Manager and Assistant Superintendent at Davis Construction. He obtained his Masters of Architecture from Catholic University in 1999, and then went on to work as a Project Architect with Ai (now Perkins & Will), managing over one million square feet of new office building design. In 2001, Thomas shifted gears, joining Lane Development, where he was a development project executive for two million square feet of new commercial office, mixed use and multi-family projects. Between 2013 and 2018, Thomas served as Associate Principal / Technical Director for Page, responsible for architecture and project management of $300M of corporate/commercial, government and housing projects from base building to tenant build-out.
Thomas has worked on many residential projects as well, from designing new homes and additions to kitchen and bathroom renovations. Attention is paid to sustainability, scale, simplicity of form, and detail leading to artful and expressive designs that are unique to each client. Thomas is one who listens and solves client's problems, to create well-crafted, timeless architecture which look like it has always been there. Thomas’ hands-on construction experience, enables him to design projects that can be built efficiently as well.
After years of visiting Idaho on vacation, Thomas and his family decided to make their “happy place” home in the summer of 2018. He was able to design and build his dream home – a nearly Net Zero house in Hailey. When he’s not designing and building, he enjoys being outside – hiking, fishing, skiing, playing and coaching ice hockey (goalie), cycling, telling his children to get off their devices and solving technical problems.
